Pursuing Connections Counseling PLLC

About

Meet, I’m Shelly Donovan, LMFTA

I’m a therapist focused on healing and connection, guiding adults and couples to live authentic lives.

My work is grounded in Emotionally Focused Therapy, an attachment-based model that helps people understand their core emotional needs and build secure connections. I also draw from the Gottman Method and other experiential, person centered approaches that support practical growth in relational dynamics.

I believe that therapy isn’t about fixing who you are—it’s about uncovering who you’ve always been underneath the pain, defenses, and disconnection. Whether you’re an individual longing to reconnect with yourself or a couple trying to repair trust and feel close again, I’m here to support your growth.

I currently practice through Life Directions Counseling, where I’m proud to be part of a team committed to accessible, emotionally focused care. We are located at 25 S Ferrall St, Spokane, WA 99202, and I serve clients across Washington via telehealth.

Our Value

Compassion, Connection, Growth

At Pursuing Connections Counseling, we guide you with warmth and attunement to foster deep connections and personal growth. Therapy is a safe space to uncover your authentic self and build meaningful relationships.

My journey shapes my empathy as a therapist.

Like you, I wear many hats: I’m a partner, friend, colleague, therapist, and part of a vibrant community. I understand how your intersecting identities—parent, partner, and professional—can bring overwhelming responsibilities that sometimes feel unmanageable.

I experienced my own struggles with anxiety and disconnection early in life, grappling with unprocessed emotions that left me feeling stuck. Therapy became my lifeline, helping me find clarity and connection through compassionate support. That journey shapes how I guide you today.

When we work together, you’ll have more than a trained therapist—you’ll have a compassionate partner who truly gets what it’s like to navigate life’s challenges and is here to help you heal and thrive.

My Guiding Values

My practice is rooted in four core values: compassion, attunement, authenticity, and hope. Compassion drives me to create a warm, safe space where you feel truly seen and supported. Attunement allows me to deeply understand your emotional needs, fostering trust and connection. Authenticity guides our work together, helping you uncover your true self without judgment. And hope fuels our journey, inspiring belief in your potential for healing and growth. These values shape every session, ensuring you feel empowered and cared for.
